Aven add-on
Understand your software
Don't ask a developer. Ask Aven. Aven reads the source code of the software your company had built or runs and explains it in plain language, with files and lines you can open. Owners, managers, product owners and new developers can ask how something is written, where it lives and which tests check it, from a single line to the whole order flow.
Use case
The customer expected 10 %. The shop gave 7 %.
A customer asks why their order received a 7 % discount instead of 10 %. The rule is somewhere in your shop's code. The developer who wrote it left last year, and nobody on the team knows where to look.
- In
- One question in the chat: “Why did this order get 7 % instead of 10 %?”
- Out
- Aven explains that invoice payments have a 7 % discount cap, points to pricing/discount.ts, line 42, and names the test “caps invoice discount at 7 %” in pricing/discount.test.ts. Ask how this fits into the order flow, and Aven shows where the rule applies.
- What you gain
- You get an answer in minutes without interrupting or paying a developer. You know what your software does, and handovers and audits start with the code and tests in front of you.
Why did this order get 7 % instead of 10 %?
The order was paid by invoice. For invoice payments, the discount is capped at 7 %. The rule and its test are below; the order flow shows where it applies.
41if (payment == "invoice") {42 discount = min(discount, 7%)43}- pricing/discount.tsLine 42
- caps invoice discount at 7 %pricing/discount.test.ts:18
- Order floworders/checkout.ts:64
What you get
- Aven explains your software's rules, how they are written and the tests that check them.
- Every answer names the files and lines it comes from.
- Follow up about one function, one rule or one line, or ask how the whole process works.
- The code Aven reads is refreshed within an hour of a change.
- Admins and the people you choose can ask. Aven only reads; it never changes code.
How it works
- 01
Choose your repository
Connect the repository of your software and choose who may ask about it.
- 02
Ask in plain language
Ask what your software does, how it is written or which tests cover it. You don't need to read code.
- 03
Open the source and follow up
Read the answer, open the files and lines, then ask about a detail or the wider process.
Good to know.
Which languages and repositories can Aven read?
Any common programming language, from repositories on GitHub, GitLab or Bitbucket. Use the repository of the software your company had built or runs.
Does Aven change our code?
No. Aven has read-only access. It explains code and points to the files, lines and tests; it never changes them.
Who can ask about our software?
Admins and the people you choose. Give access to the owners, product team or developers who need to understand your software.
